Our Impact

In the Community

Having supported women in the community for over 30 years, we are so proud of the difference we have made and even with the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought us; Hillingdon Women’s Centre has continued to thrive! We have created more services, established new ways of working and have grown our team of staff, volunteers and trustees! We continue to work with community organisations and build our partnership working opportunities.

Domestic Abuse Support

Over the last year there has been increased demand for domestic abuse services. In fact 65% of our service users have been (or are currently) affected by domestic abuse. Our DA Case Worker provides 1:1 advice, safety planning and advocacy to women who are in need of support. We also established our own DA recovery programme in November 2020 which provides group based support to survivors in their journey as they build a new life, free of violence.

Workplace Safespace

In 2020, we launched an employer initiative: Workplace Safespace. Developed in collaboration with our partner organisations such as the London Borough of Hillingdon, the Sharan Project and Belina Grow, we train local employers and provide organisations with the skills to spot domestic abuse warning signs, build effective DA policies and support staff experiencing abuse. This initiative has grown from strength to strength and we are continually updating and building on the training modules to suit the needs of the organisations we work with.

Our Volunteers

We have completely refreshed our volunteering programme to further enhance the experience of our volunteers and placement students. From recruitment, through to mentorship and supervision – all volunteers who support us at HWC can feel assured that they will gain new skills, be entrusted with responsibility and will be fully supported and supervised during their time volunteering with us!

“I just want to say thank you so much for helping me with not only advice but also restarting my life… I’m 50 years old and thought after my 20 years of marriage from hell, my life was over… Thank you for providing a service to help women like me rebuild our lives.”
